Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College volleyball finally hit the court Saturday afternoon and split a doubleheader with rival Averett University. The Cougars earned a 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 16-25, 18-25) USA South finish in game one, and the Angels finished the day with a sweep (25-15, 25-22, 25-23).
Game 1
The Angels opened the day strong hitting .393 with 12 kills. AU evened the score in the second and closed down MCVB's offense in the third and fourth. With a combined 37 digs, the Cougars stiffled Meredith's attack to finish the win.
Whitney Bolton and Ally Copenhaver led the Angels with double-digit kills, and Lauren Phillips notched 14 digs. Copenhaver grabbed nine digs, and Bailey Lucas added nine to her 26 assists. Hailey Long finished with four blocks.
Game 2
Meredith averaged .300 or better in two of three games in the second match with Copenhaver and Long leading the charge with seven kills apiece. Copenhaver added 13 digs with a pair of assists. Lucas dished out 23 assists with three digs, four kills, and Phillips notched 14 digs, four assists.
Lauren Bissette led the front line with a pair of solo blocks to go along with five kills in the middle, and Bolton and Avery Bowman teamed up on two occasions to stuff AU, adding a combined nine kills.
AU's Lauren Montren recorded the only double-double on the day with 17 kills, 11 digs in the Cougar win.
