Box Score The Meredith women's lacrosse team clinched the top spot in the USA South East Division with a decisive win on the road over Averett, 20-5.
Meredith (8-1, 5-0 USA South) jumped out to a 7-0 in the first 14 minutes of the game, as senior Lilia Cruz and sophomore Kylie Phillips eached registered two goals and an assist during the run. The Avenging Agnels would continue to add to their lead, taking a 15-2 advantage into halftime.
Phillips led all scorers with seven goals, and had a game-high nine points. Cruz, juniors Maya Flake (2G, 4A) and Olivia Blake (3G, 3A), and sophomore Tori Whitmer (2G, 1A) all tallied multi-point game. Freshman Jess Dowdy paced Meredith with 13 draw controls and three caused turnovers. Senior Joy Deitrich made four saves in 30 minutes of action for her eighth win of the season.
Meredith is back in action Sunday afternoon as they travel to St. Mary's College (Md.) for a 1 p.m. game.
