Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – Visiting Christopher Newport used 7-0 run that sandwiched halftime en route to a 15-8 win over Meredith.
Meredith (9-3, 6-0 USA South) gained a 5-2 advantage with 8:42 to play in the first half, which included a three goals and an assist by Lilia Cruz, goals by Jess Dowdy and Kylie Phillips, and a pair of assists by Arrianna May.
The Captains (10-6) scored a pair of goals 20 seconds apart to cut the deficit to 5-4 with 8:06 remaining in the half, before Julia Iapicca tied the game, 5-5, off of a feed from Zoe Dyer with 3:58 left.
In the second half, CNU scored the first four goals of to take a 9-5 advantage until Cruz broke the run with 21:02 left to play off an assist by Maya Flake.
Cruz finished the game with five goals and two assists. Joy Deitrich made 10 saves for Meredith.
Meredith is back in action this Saturday as they host Averett in the USA South East Division Championship at 1:00 p.m.
