Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – Meredith lacrosse used a 20-0 first half onslaught en route to a 24-1 blowout win over Averett in the USA South East Division Championship, advancing to the USA South Championship Game.
Conference Rookie of the Year Jess Dowdy opened the scoring 59 seconds into the game to open the scoring. Meredith pushed the score to 9-0 with two goals apiece by Kylie Phillips, Brianna Petrusa, and Olivia Blake, and goals by Arrianna May, and Conference Offensive Player of the Year Lilia Cruz, before Averett called a timeout.
The Avenging Angels would continue to add to their lead in the second half, taking a 23-0 advantage with 23:43 left in the game.
Blake finished the game with a game-high nine points on four goals and five assists. Petrusa led the way with five goals while adding three assists. Maya Flake also finished with eight points on three goals and five assists. Sophomores Phillips (4G, 1A) and Tori Whitmer (3G, 2A) each finished with five points, while Cruz scored three goals to go along with six draw controls, six ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
Ansley Harris had a game-high four caused turnovers, while Conference Defender of the Year Joy Deitrich made three saves and didn't allow a goal in 30 minutes of action for her 10th win of the season.
Meredith awaits the winner of the West Division Championship Game between Piedmont and Pfeiffer on April 25th to determine whom they will face in the USA South Championship Game on May 1st. If Piedmont wins, Meredith will travel to Piedmont for championship. If Pfeiffer is victorious, Meredith would host the title game.
