Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Christopher Newport in Weatherspoon Gymnasium on Friday night.
The Avenging Angels drop to 3-3 on the season, while the Captains, who received votes in the last AVCA Top 25 poll, move to 5-2 overall.
Whitney Bolton led the team with eight kills on the night. She also added a dig and two total blocks (one solo). Lauren Bissette, Hailey Long and Avery Bowman each recorded seven kills, while Madelyn Clark tallied four kills. Bowman also led the team with 16 assists, while Bailey Lucas registered 14 assists.
Defensively, Lauren Phillips recorded 23 digs and now leads the USA South Athletic Conference in digs this season with 125 through six matches. Bowman added nine digs to her long scoreline as well. Hannah Jo Jablonski contributed nine digs as well. Sara Dees put down five total blocks and now sits tied for second in the conference with eight solo blocks.
For the Captains, Kyla McIntyre struck over .500 and recorded 20 kills and Maddie Carter also recorded double-digit kills with 10 of her own. Anna Dean recorded seven kills and Mackenzie Wright notched six. Sammy Carroll registered 44 assists in the win, as well. Noelle Starr recorded 22 digs, while Dean tallied 11 digs. Dean and Macy Burke each registered a pair of blocks.
The Avenging Angels return to action tomorrow, Sept. 11, with a pair of matches hosted by William Peace. First, Meredith takes on Guilford at 3 pm before finishing the night against the Pacers at 5 pm.
