BREVARD, N.C. -- The Meredith College volleyball program played a pair of nonconference games against USA South schools at Brevard College on Friday.

The Avenging Angels started the day with a 3-2 loss against Maryville before rebounding with a 3-0 win against Covenant.

In the first match of the day, Whitney Bolton finished with a season-high 18 kills to go with a solo block to lead the way for MC. Hailey Long also recorded 15 kills and 11 digs for a kill/dig double-double, while Lauren Bissette finished with seven kills. Avery Bowman tallied 41 assists and 11 digs to go with three service aces, as well. 

Defensively, Lauren Phillips paced the team with 27 digs and also added three assists. Bissette also added three total blocks (two solo) to her kill total. 

In the win against Covenant, Long led the way with 18 kills, while Bolton followed with eight. Bowman registered 37 assists and seven digs, while Bissette recorded eight kills on a .571 hitting percentage with four total blocks (three solo). 

Phillips led the Angels again with 16 digs, while Hannah Jo Jablonski was close behind with 13 digs of her own. 

The Avenging Angels return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 22, as they open conference play against Methodist in Weatherspoon Gym at 7 pm.
