Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Meredith College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Marlin Invitational, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan, on Saturday afternoon.
With the two decisions, the Avenging Angels move to 3-1 on the season and finish the weekend 2-1.
The first contest of the day was a 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-19) loss to Virginia Wesleyan before downing Mary Washington 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21).
Against the Marlins, Whitney Bolton and Hailey Long each finished with seven kills to lead the team, while Avery Bowman tallied five of her own. Bowman also finished with 17 assists and 10 digs to go with one total block. Bailey Lucas recorded nine assists as well.
Defensively, Lauren Phillips registered 23 digs to lead the game, while Emily Emerson recorded 11 digs. Sara Dees led the team with four total blocks, including three solo tallies.
In the win against the Eagles, Lauren Bissette paced the squad with 18 kills with an astounding .680 hitting perentage on 25 total swings. She also recorded a dig and a block. Bolton and Bowman each tallied seven kills, while Dees and Long finished with six. Lucas led the way with 20 assists followed by Bowman with 19 assists and Phillips also added four of her own.
Defensively, Phillips tallied 20 more digs to lead the game while Hannah Jo Jablonski finished with 15 digs.
The Avenging Angels return to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 7, for their home opener against Randolph-Macon beginning at 7 pm.
