Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – The Meredith College volleyball team welcomed fans back to the Weatherspoon Gymnasium for the first time since the 2019 season on Friday night.
The Avenging Angels fell to Randolph-Macon in a nonconference match 3-1 (25-19, 14-25, 25-19, 25-22).
With the result, Meredith drops to 3-2 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-0.
Leading the way offensively were Whitney Bolton and Madelyn Clark who totaled 11 kills each, while Hailey Long added nine of her own. Avery Bowman recorded 27 assists to lead the team and also registered four kills and six digs. Sara Dees dropped eight kills and recorded four blocks and four digs.
Defensively, Lauren Phillips led the team with 23 digs and she also added five assists. Hannah Jo Jablonski registered 12 digs while Emily Emerson finished with 10 of her own.
Additionally, Lauren Bissette recorded seven kills and totaled two blocks in the loss.
For the Yellow Jackets, Danielle LaRosa finished with 12 kills to lead the team as she hit at an astounding .647 clip. Sydney Koch totaled eight kills and Ashlyn Knott recorded six. Macguire Gubba tallied 40 assists and also put down two kills and recorded nine digs.
Leslie Currie registered 23 digs, while Madison Warlick finished with 15. On the net, Knott tallied four total blocks, while LaRosa had three and Koch finished with two total blocks.
As a team, Meredith hit at a .184 clip compared to a .160 hitting percentage from Randolph-Macon.
The Avenging Angels return to action on Friday, Sept. 10, at home against Christopher Newport beginning at 6 pm.
