Field hockey falls in overtime thriller to Southern Virginia for season finale

Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith field hockey program fell 5-4 in overtime to Southern Virginia University in its 2022 season finale at the Meredith Track & Field Complex Wednesday night.

The Avenging Angels scored its most goals in a game all season with four. They headed in the halftime break trailing 3-2 after freshman Sierra Grande score twice in the first half of action. Freshman Emma Hinds and sophomore Cynthia Styron Sanchez picked up assists on the goals.

Hinds later on tied the game up with a goal of her own in the third quarter and the game headed to the 4th quarter all tied up at 3-3.

The Knights took the lead with 11 minutes to play but just two minutes later sophomore Kennedy Sullivan scored to tie things back up and force overtime. Southern Virginia scored seven minutes in and secured the victory.

That wraps up the second season for the Meredith field hockey program.
