Lacrosse Angels Stung by Hornets

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Meredith College lacrosse team fell to the Hornets of Shenandoah University 11-9 in a non-conference match-up on Saturday.  Shenandoah finished strong, scoring 3 goals in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Meredith opened up the scoring in the first with a goal from Olivia Verlinden at 13:41.  Two goals from Arrianna May and another from Maya Flake would bring the Avenging Angels within one as they closed out the first quarter 5-4.

Both teams would continue to battle through the cold and rainy conditions.  The lead changed seven times throughout the contest, as the teams were never separated by more than two goals.  

Eight Angels found the net with Arianna May leading the way with two goals, one assist, three ground balls and one caused turnover.

Madeline Horrell and Mackenzie Bianchi split time in goal for Meredith, combining for 9 saves on the day. 

Meredith won 12 of 23 draws, while Shenandoah led in shots with 29-22 and ground balls 19-17.

The Angels will look to bounce back as they head to Florida for another non-conference match-up vs Albright on Tuesday at 10:00am.
