Box Score Meredith College lacrosse traveled to Fredericksburg, VA on Saturday to face off against the University of Mary Washington Eagles. The Eagles took an early lead, but Meredith battled back with goals from Lauryn Turner and Jessica Dowdy to bring the score within 2. MWU continued to rally, adding 4 more goals in the 2nd quarter. A goal from Arrianna May would shorten the Eagle's lead to 4 before closing out the first half with a score of 8-3.
Mary Washington opened up the scoring in the third quarter to maintain control of the lead. Freshmen Lauryn Turner added her second goal of the day at 9:31 in the third. The Angels would find the net two more times in the fourth quarter with goals from Maya Flake and Kylie Phillips.
Meredith controlled the draw in the game, leading the Eagles 13-12 but UMW led in shots 24-16 as well as ground balls 20-14. Turner would lead Meredith with 2 goals, 2 caused turnovers and 3 draw controls. Mackenzie Bianchi and Madeline Horrell split time in goal for the Angels.
The Angels look to defend their conference title as they open up USA South play this Wednesday at William Peace. Game time is slated for 7pm.
