Meredith Lacrosse Sets Pace in Win Against WPU

Raleigh, NC - Meredith College Lacrosse opened USA South Conference play today with a 23-1 win against cross town rival William Peace University.  Freshman Olivia Verlinden had a breakout performance as she and Arrianna May led the way with five goals a piece for the Avenging Angels.  

Meredith opened the scoring early as Kylie Phillips found the net at 14:00, the first of her three goals on the day. The Angels would continue to pressure the Pacers over the rest of the first two quarters, taking an 18-0 lead into the half.  

During the second half, Meredith added five more goals, as they slowed the ball while maintaining possession.  Meredith was able to control possession throughout the game by dominating the draw controls 18-5 over the Pacers. Arianna May led the team with nine draws. Jessica Dowdy chipped in seven, and Lauryn Turner finished with two. 

The Meredith attack shared the ball throughout the game with ten players registering points. Maya Flake led the way with eight points on three goals and five assists, while Arrianna May finished with six points on five goals and one assist.

Sophomore goalies Madeline Horrell and Mackenzie Bianchi split time in the cage for the win. 

Meredith lacrosse returns to action this Saturday for their home opener.  The Avenging Angels will face off against Shenandoah University in a non-conference match-up.  Live video and stats will be available.  Game time is slated for 12:00pm.
