Box Score Piedmont, GA - MC Lax finished off the Piedmont Lions to remain unbeaten in conference play as they head into next weekend's Tournament Championship.
After a back and forth start in the opening minutes, Meredith found their momentum off of a nine-goal 2nd quarter performance en route to a 23-8 win on the road. Meredith scored three quick goals in the opening three minutes of the second quarter before Piedmont freshman Merryn Bumpass found the back of the net for the Lions. The Angels would respond with six consecutive goals featuring five different attackers. The final goal from senior Olivia Blake with 13 seconds left in the half would put the running clock in motion and the game on autopilot.
Seven different attackers registered points in the second half as the Angels outscored the Lions 8-2 over the remaining 30 minutes. Sophomore Arri May led the team with 8 points on 7 goals and an assist, while senior Maya Flake finished with 7 points on 6 assists and a goal. Sophomore Jess Dowdy pulled in 8 draws while sophomore Frannie Rosone won 4 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers to control the midfield. The Meredith defense was relentless in their ride forcing 10 failed clears as Piedmont went 9 for 19 on their attempts.
Sophomores Mackenzie Bianchi and Madi Horrell split time in the cage for the Meredith win.
Meredith will host the 2022 USA South Conference Tournament as they battle to defend their title. Meredith will be the #1 seed in the tournament and will play at 3 pm Friday, April 29th. Meredith's opponent will be the winner of the Methodist/Piedmont game played on Tuesday, April 26.
