Box Score Raleigh, NC - The Meredith College lacrosse team cruised to a 21-2 USA South conference victory over the Huntingdon University Hawks.
Meredith's dominance in today's win was never left up to question as they outshot the Hawks 43-8 putting 32 shots on goal. The Avenging Angels also won 15 draw controls and totaled 27 ground balls.
Meredith took an early lead over the Hawks after finding the back of the net three times in the first two minutes of action. Huntingdon did not answer with a goal until deep in the second quarter scoring one within the last four minutes before halftime. Meredith's Ava Spradley answered back with a goal at 2:20 giving the Angels a 14-1 lead as they entered the halftime break. The running clock rule had gone into effect with 4:18 on the clock in the first quarter.
Jessica Dowdy totaled four goals and four assists to lead Meredith while Olivia Verlinden added five points on three goals and two assists. Kamryn Muschette, Lauryn Turner, and Ava Spradley each recorded a hat trick. Freshman Sophie Hutton and junior Kylie Phillips both scored twice. Attacker Tori Witmer contributed one goal and one assist while senior Maya Flake came in clutch with three assists. Meredith goalies Madeline Horrell and Mackenzie Bianchi split time each playing 30 minutes and producing one and three saves respectively.
The Angels added one more point to the board in the third quarter before Hawks scored again to give the game an 15-2 score with 3:45 to play in the period. Meredith then outscored Huntingdon 3-0 in the fourth to end the game with a 19-point win.
Next, Meredith will travel to face Roanoke College next Thursday, April 14th. Game time is set for 4pm.
