Box Score 2 Danville, Va. -- The Meredith College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Cougar Classic, hosted by Averett University, on Friday afternoon.
The first contest of the day was a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-21) win over Piedmont before falling to Averett 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-21).
In the win over the Lions, junior Lauren Bissette led the way with eight kills while graduate senior Kenzie Moore added six as well. The two combined to swing a .434 hitting percentage. Freshman Lillie Davis tallied 18 assists and five digs in her collegiate debut.
Defensively, junior Hannah Jo Jablonski registered 15 digs to lead the Avenging Angels, while Emily Emerson added six digs.
In the loss against the Cougars, senior Hailey Long cranked out 17 kills swinging a .652 hitting percentage while Davis tallied 21 assists and nine digs.
The Avenging Angels return to the court on tomorrow for day two of the Cougar Classic against Bob Jones at 11:30 p.m. and then Roanoke at 1:30 p.m.
