Box Score 2 Danville, Va. - The Meredith Volleyball program ended the Cougar Classic with two wins over Bob Jones and Roanoke in the Grant Center. Each match the Avenging Angels won 3-1.
In the first win over Bob Jones, Meredith had to fight back after dropping the first set 25-11. They won the next three sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-21). The wealth was spread around evenly as junior Lauren Bissette and sophomore Martin-Maine Wrangell both tallied nine kills. Senior Hailey Long added eight kills with five digs while graduate senior Kenzie Moore earned sixe kills.
Freshman setter Lillie Davis earned 32 assists and also added seven digs. Freshman Lexie House led the Avenging Angels in digs with 13.
In the second win over Roanoke, the Avenging Angels dropped the second set but closed the Maroons out in the next two sets. Wrangell and Long led the charge again with 13 and 12 kills each. Davis topped her first match with a career-high 41 assists and eight digs. The defense of the Avenging Angels was spread out thoughout the floor as four players saw double digit digs. Freshman Katelyn Patterson led the way with 13 digs as sophomore Emma Duncan tallied 12 and House and Long added 10 each.
The Avenging Angels are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Randolph-Macon at 7 p.m.
