Box Score Ashland, Va. - The Meredith volleyball team fell 3-1 to Randolph-Macon Wednesday night in a non-conference match.
The Avenging Angels (3-2,0-0 USA South) dropped the first two sets of the night to the Yellow Jackets (4-1,0-0 ODAC) before earning a win in the third set. Randolph-Macon took the match (25-18, 25-13, 16-25, and 25-22).
Randolph-Macon handled Meredith throughout the first two sets swinging a .267 and a.304 hitting percentage compared to the Avenging Angels .053 and .115 throughout those first two sets. Meredith came alive in the 3rd set swinging a .435 hitting percentage to get them right back in the match.
The fourth set went back and forth with the Avenging Angels pulling within one multiple times late in the match. After pulling the score to 23-22 the Yellow Jackets rattled off back to back points for the win.
Senior Hailey Long powered the offense with 14 kills to lead the team. Long also added four digs while freshman Lillie Davis tallied 23 assists and eight digs.
The Avenging Angels are back in Weatherspoon this Friday when they host Maryville at 4 p.m. and then Brevard at 6 p.m.
