Soccer blanks Battling Bishops

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith soccer program remains unbeaten in USA South play after shutting out North Carolina Wesleyan College 2-0 Tuesday night at the Meredith Track & Field Complex on their annual Pink Out for breast cancer awareness.

Meredith (3-2-4, 2-0-1 USA South) opened the scoring just 11 minutes into the match when the freshman duo of Rachel Ward and Lucy Miller connected to get the Angels on the board. Miller played a beautiful through ball to Ward who beat her defender and the keep to find the back of the net.

The Angels weren't done just yet in the first half scoring again in the 42nd minute of action. Senior Madeline Ostrowski beat the Battling Bishops keeper with a rocket from outside the box giving the Angels a 2-0 lead they took into the halftime break.

N.C. Wesleyan (1-8-0, 0-3-0 USA South) tallied 13 shots to the Angels 10 but were never able to convert.

Fifth year Kasey Wilkins and sophomore Allison Fox combined for the clean sheet in goal for the Angels.

Meredith is right back in action at home this Saturday when they host Salem College at 2 p.m.
