Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith lacrosse program picked up a 20-3 win over Virginia Wesleyan University at the Meredith Track & Field Complex in its home opener on Saturday afternoon.
Meredith (1-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter of action before Virginia Wesleyan (0-2) got on the board. The Angels ended the first quarter with a 6-1 advantage. The Angels once again scored six goals in the second quarter and took a 12-2 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Angels tallied eight second-half goals to shut the door on the Marlins. Meredith earned 10 more draw controls than the Marlins while also picking up 18 more ground balls.
Meredith had seven different players find the back of the net on a total of 29 shots on goal. Sophomore Lauryn Turner led the charge scoring six goals while also adding two assists, four draw controls, and three ground balls.
Junior Jessica Dowdy added five goals, eight ground balls, and six draw controls while fellow junior Arrianna May tallied three goals and three assists while earning a team-high 11 ground balls.
Senior Tori Witmer and freshman Reese Walker both scored twice while Witmer also picked up three assists. Sophomores Allison June Mabe and Ava Spradley also scored for the Angels.
Junior Madeline Horrell and freshman Amelia Money both tallied three saves each in goal.
Meredith is back in action at home when they host Mary Washington on March 1st at 6 p.m.
