Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Avenging Angels lacrosse team traveled to Lynchburg College Wednesday night for a non-conference game taking down the Hornets 9-8.
Meredith did not wait long to get the scoring started as sophomore Lauryn Turner scored 49 seconds into the contest. Turner continues her fantastic season finishing the game with a team-high three goals on just four shots along with two ground balls and one draw control.
Freshman Brooke Blades found the back of the net next for the Angels putting her team out front 2-0 early.
Lynchburg tied the game back up before junior Jessica Dowdy scored which was one of her two goals on the afternoon giving the Angels a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Sophomore Sophie LeClaire was credited with the assist which was the only one for the Angels all game. LeClaire also picked up two ground balls.
Meredith was held scoreless in the second quarter and trailed 4-3 at the half.
The Angels came out soaring in the third outscoring the Hornets 5-1. Freshman Reese Walker scored twice while senior Kylie Phillips also found the back of the net to extend their advantage. Phillips also tallied five draw controls.
Lynchburg scored the final three goals of the game but the Angels held on for the victory. Junior Madeline Horrell picked up the win in goal with 13 saves and four ground balls.
Meredith is back on the road this Saturday when they travel to Huntingdon for a 1 p.m. start.
