Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith lacrosse program outlasted Methodist University 21-13 Wednesday night for their USA South home opener.
Meredith (7-3, 3-0 USA South) began the scoring just over a minute into the contest when senior Kylie Phillips found the back of the net. Phillips ended the night with a game-high eight draw controls, adding four goals and two groundballs.
Methodist (6-4, 1-2 USA South) hung tight with the Avenging Angels as the first quarter went back and forth. Meredith led 4-3 at the end of the first and 10-7 at the half.
The third quarter is when Meredith pulled away from the Monarchs outscoring them 8-3 and never looking back. Senior Tori Witmer had a game-high six goals with half of them coming in the third quarter.
The freshman duo of Brooke Blades and Reese Walker combined for seven goals and five assists. Blades scored four and Walker scored three with four assists. Sophomores Lauryn Turner and Allison June Mabe scored twice each and Turner added four assists as well.
Defensively, senior Meredith Sinkler caused five turnovers and had a game-high seven groundballs. Freshman Amelia Money earned the win in goal with three saves.
The Avenging Angels are back in action Friday when they travel to conference foe, Southern Virginia, for a 6 p.m. start.
