Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith lacrosse program clinched its seventh consecutive USA South Regular Season Title with a 22-8 victory over Piedmont University Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. The Angels will host the USA South Tournament once again looking for its ninth title in a row.
Meredith (13-4, 9-0 USA South) used the excitement of Senior Day to lift them to a hot start. The Angels led 6-1 at the end of the first quarter and 13-3 at halftime.
Piedmont (11-6, 7-2 South) scored the first goal of the game which was followed by a 7-0 Meredith.
Seniors Kylie Phillips and Tori Witmer led the attack combining for nine goals and one assist. Phillips added a game-high 12 draw controls while Witmer tallied her 100th career goal as an Avenging Angel.
Sophomore Lauryn Turner scored five and added two assists while freshman and reigning USA South Rookie of the Week Reese Walker scored three with six assists. Junior Jessica Dowdy put a nice all-around game together with three goals, one assist, and eight draw controls.
Defensively, seniors Izzy Steele, Meredith Sinkler, and Ali Schuh combined for four caused turnovers and three ground balls in their final regular season contest for the Angels.
Meredith will host North Carolina Wesleyan College Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament.
