Field Hockey falls in season opener against Bridgewater

RALEIGH, N.C. - In a hard-fought battle, the Meredith College Field Hockey program fell short against Bridgewater College 5-0 Friday night in their 2023 season opener at the Meredith Track and Field Complex.

Despite the loss, the team's performance showcased their unwavering spirit, resilience, and determination to compete at the highest level. Defensively, the Avenging Angels saw junior Shae-Lynn Henderson tally 23 saves in goal while sophomore Sierra Grande earned a defensive save.

In the second half, the defenders showcased their exceptional communication and organization. The Angels held the Eagles to only one goal in the last 30 minutes of play.

The freshman duo of Megan Ingenito and Charlotte Dyer were responsible for two of Meredith's shot attempts while sophomore Jordan Brooks picked up the third.

"The entire team, coaching staff, and supporters should be proud of the effort displayed on the field tonight," head coach Colleen Cassada said. "The Angels
have proven themselves as a competitive force, and their resilience in the face of defeat is a testament to their character."

The Angels are back in action on Labor Day, Sep. 4th, when they travel to Goucher for an 11 a.m. game.
