RALEIGH, N.C. - In a hard-fought battle, the Meredith College Field Hockey program fell short against Bridgewater College 5-0 Friday night in their 2023 season opener at the Meredith Track and Field Complex.
Despite the loss, the team's performance showcased their unwavering spirit, resilience, and determination to compete at the highest level. Defensively, the Avenging Angels saw junior
Shae-Lynn Henderson tally 23 saves in goal while sophomore
Sierra Grande earned a defensive save.
In the second half, the defenders showcased their exceptional communication and organization. The Angels held the Eagles to only one goal in the last 30 minutes of play.
The freshman duo of
Megan Ingenito and
Charlotte Dyer were responsible for two of Meredith's shot attempts while sophomore
Jordan Brooks picked up the third.
"The entire team, coaching staff, and supporters should be proud of the effort displayed on the field tonight," head coach
Colleen Cassada said. "The Angels
have proven themselves as a competitive force, and their resilience in the face of defeat is a testament to their character."
The Angels are back in action on Labor Day, Sep. 4th, when they travel to Goucher for an 11 a.m. game.
