Gettysburg, Pa. - The Meredith volleyball program traveled to Gettysburg College to play in the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic this past weekend. The Angels kicked off their 2023 season going 3-1.
On Friday, Meredith swept both RIT and Hood to begin the weekend. In game one against RIT, senior
Lauren Bissette led the Angel attack with eight kills. Sophomore
Lillie Davis tallied seven assists and six digs. Freshman
Maggie Gibbons and
Megan Murray hit the ground running in their college careers as Gibbons earned a team-high 10 assists and Murray picked up a team-high eight digs.
In game two of the day against Hood, it was more of the same. Bissette earned a team-high nine kills while juniors
Emma Duncan and
Mac Stafford added six each. Davis and Gibbons combined for 22 assists and 10 digs. Senior
Hannah Jo Jablonski picked up nine digs while sophomore
Alexa House dug up six.
Saturday began with a loss to York for the Angels but all in tight games. The Angels didn't lose by more then six in a single set, falling 25-19, 25-21, and 25-22. Bissette had a game-high 12 kills while junior
Sara Dees picked up eight along with Duncan who had seven. Jablonski earned a game-high as well with 28 digs. Davis picked up a double-double with 22 assists and 11 digs.
The Angels rounded out the weekend with a sweep of Eastern Mennonite University. Freshman
Caitlyn Russell earned a team-high 10 kills while Gibbons tallied a double-double with 11 assists and 11 digs. Davis rounded out her weekend with 21 assists and eight digs.
Senior
Lauren Bissette, who led Division III in hitting percentage last season, was named to the All-Tournament team.
Meredith is back in action this upcoming weekend at home when they again play four games in two days. They begin with St. Marys Sep. 8th at 4 p.m.
