STAUNTON, Va. - The Avenging Angel basketball program picked up an electric overtime victory 68-62 over Mary Baldwin University Saturday afternoon.
The back-and-forth contest saw 10 ties and eight total lead changes throughout. Meredith took a four-point lead into the second quarter before Mary Baldwin flipped the script and led by four at halftime.
The Angels trailed by one heading into the final quarter of action. With 18 seconds left Meredith trailed by two, junior
Barresha Jones grabbed an offensive rebound which led to a layup by senior
De'ja Morgan which would lead the game to overtime. The two combined for 21 points and six rebounds.
Meredith outscored Mary Baldwin 13-7 in overtime to earn the victory. The Angels scored 20 points off turnovers while also cashing in on 19 second-chance points after grabbing 23 offensive rebounds.
Senior
Piper Carriere led the attack with 20 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Fellow senior
Danika Ray tallied 12 points and nine rebounds while freshman
Marlee Beam and sophomore
Rylie Wade combined for nine points and 19 rebounds with eight of them being offensive.
Meredith is back inside Weatherspoon Gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 30th, when they host N.C. Wesleyan at 6 p.m.
