TRUE TEAM EFFORT EARNS MEREDITH THEIR FIRST SHUTOUT OF THE SEASON

Box Score Buena Vista, VA - Meredith Field Hockey traveled to Southern Virginia Saturday Oct 19th to close out their 2024 series. The Angels had four different goal scorers that led them to the win and had a total of seven goals in the match. The Angels walked away with a shutout victory, leading the Knights series 5-3.

How it Happened:
The Angles had a defensive battle in the first quarter versus the knights. Meredith came out on top when Charlotte Dyer found the back of the net from an assist by Sierra Grande with only 3:16 minutes left on the clock.

Meredith pounded SVU's goal, scoring four more times in the second quarter. Jordan Brooks opened the scoring period with an assist from Maya Kirstein. Charlotte Dyer notched the next two points, earning herself her first hat trick. Maya Kirstein closed out this quarter with a goal that was assisted by Marrisa Tilgner. The angels got 17 shots on goal, a game high ended the first half 5-0.

The Knights tried to answer Meredith's lead but were stopped with a defensive save by Carleigh Harris. Meredith regained control with 44 seconds left on the clock when Charlotte Dyer tallied her final goal of the match. Only 19 seconds later, Marrisa Tilgner scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Sierra Grande, finishing the quarter 7-0.

The final 15 minutes remained a stalemate between the Knights and Angels. SVU tallied only four shots on goal throughout the whole game, a season low. Meredith also withheld SVU to a season low of three corners, securing the Angel's fourth win of the 2024 season.

Charlotte Dyer recorded 4 goals, a career high for a single game. Dyer is now in the lead for all time goals with twelve. Maya Kirtstin becomes the first avenging angel for Meredith Field Hockey to score 10 goals for a single season and is now tied with Megan Ingenito for second place in all time goals scored. Marrisa Tilgner also notched her first career goal in today's match. Carleigh Harris earned her first defensive save, helping Meredith clinch their first shutout of the 2024 campaign.

Meredith College Field Hockey will return home to host the Cobra's of Coker University on Tuesday October, 22nd. For the final home game of the season, the Angels are inviting the local community to come out and support Meredith Field Hockey. Tip off is set for 6:00PM.
