Raleigh, N.C. – On a beautiful fall night, the Meredith soccer team celebrated Senior Night with a thrilling 2-1 victory over cross-town rivals, William Peace. The game, filled with energy from a supportive home crowd, served as a memorable send-off for seniors Meredith Warrick, Khaliah Jones, Audrey Taylor, and Rebecca Morrison and secured the Avenging Angels' position as the 5th seed in the upcoming USA South Conference Tournament.
A tightly contested first half saw both teams enter halftime scoreless, with Meredith's defensive line holding strong against a determined Pacers attack. The Avenging Angels' defense, led by standout performances from seniors Warrick and Jones, kept the Pacers to just one goal for the match, displaying resilience and control that set the stage for a triumphant finish.
Meredith broke the deadlock early in the second half, with Evelyn Hopkins scoring in the 50th minute off an assist from Kate Conoley. William Peace quickly responded with an equalizer to tie it up at 1-1. However, Conoley came through again, delivering a decisive goal in the 80th minute to secure the win for Meredith, igniting the home crowd.
Meredith finished the 2024 regular season 10-5-3, the program's strongest finish since 2018. Their final conference record of 5-3-1, puts Meredith in the USA South Conference Tournament as the 5th seed. They are set to face Southern Virginia University in the first round on Saturday, November 2 at 6:30pm.
