Box Score 2 Misenheimer, N.C. - In a hard-fought battle that added another chapter to the long-standing rivalry between the two teams, Southern Virginia narrowly defeated Meredith 16-14 in the fifth set of a dramatic match. Set scores were 13-25, 26-24, 12-25, 27-25, 14-16. Despite a slow start in the first set, the Avenging Angels showed their resilience, storming back to win the second. Though Southern Virginia tested them in the third, Meredith fought hard in the fourth set to even the match and force a decisive fifth set. The final set was a nail-biting, back-and-forth battle, but in the end, Southern Virginia managed to claim the narrow victory.
Leading the way for Meredith was freshman Delaney Lowery, who recorded 11 kills and 5 block assists. Sophomore Megan Murray also made a significant impact with 18 digs.
Just 40 minutes later, the Avenging Angels took the court again, this time against Pfeiffer University. Meredith responded with a dominant performance, sweeping the host school in three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-6. Freshman Delaney Lowery continued her impressive play, posting a .857 hitting percentage on 14 swings. Freshman Reagan Kresho contributed from the service line with 4 aces, while senior Emma Duncan added 8 kills and a .412 hitting percentage.
Meredith will be back in action at home on Wednesday, October 9, when they host cross-town rival William Peace at 7 PM.
