RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith softball program dropped both games against Methodist University on Wednesday afternoon. The Angels dropped a heartbreaker in extra innings in game one 7-6 before losing 5-2 in game two.
Both teams scored runs in the first inning of game one before going quiet. The Angels took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the third off an RBI single from sophomore Aveery Puryear. Puryear had two hits and three RBIs in the game.
Five runs in the fifth for the Monarchs gave them a four-run lead as the Angels headed to the bottom of the seventh. Freshman

Lillie Davis, and Puryear all earned clutch RBIs to send the game into extra innings. The Monarchs scored in the top of the eighth giving them a one-run lead the Angels could not match.
The Angels trailed for most of game two but were only down one heading into the seventh. Methodist tacked on two more to seal the sweep. Puryear was responsible for both RBIs in game two as Davis struck out five in the circle.
Meredith is back home this weekend when they host Southern Virginia University on Saturday with game one set for 1 p.m.
