Misenheimer, N.C. - The Meredith softball program handed No. 11 Pfeiffer University only its second loss on the season. Meredith took game one 2-1 in extra innings before falling 9-1 in game two on Jack Ingram Field.
Graduate student
Hannah Weigle put on a show in the circle for game one only giving up two hits and no earned runs. The game was scoreless through eight innings of play.
In the top of the ninth, senior
Mia Staggs was the runner placed on second. Staggs stole third and came in to score off a sacrifice fly from sophomore
Lillie Davis giving the Angels the lead.
Later in the inning senior
Sarah Manis, who had a two-hit game, tripled and came around to score off an RBI single from sophomore
Tess Spangenburg.
Spangenburg had a two-hit game and her RBI proved to be the difference for the Angels. Sophomore
Emilee Lewis also had a two-hit game one.
Meredith scored first in game two but gave up nine runs in the last three innings giving the Falcons a six-inning win. The Angels tallied 10 hits but seven errors in the field. Lewis had a three-hit game two.
The Angels wrap up the 2024 regular season with Senior Day on Saturday when they host North Carolina Wesleyan University with game one set for 1 p.m.
