Avenging Angels Score 3 in Season Opender; First Time in Program History

Box Score

Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith College Field Hockey team went head to head
with the Goucher College Gophers for their home opener on Sunday, September 1st. The
Avenging Angels (0-1) started their season with a tough loss against the Gophers (1-1). Giving
up a late goal in the fourth period to close the game 3-4.

How it Happened:
- The Meredith offense led by Charlotte Dyer, Maya Kirstein and Megan Ingenito kept the
Gophers on their heels with an aggressive attack in the opening minutes. Charlotte Dyer
found the back of the cage just 6:50 into the first period. Officially making history by
scoring the first goal ever during a Meredith Field Hockey Season Opening Game.
- After a consistent back and forth battle in the second period, the Gophers found their
way through the Meredith defense to even the score. Megan Ingenito didn't let that lead
last long as she found a pass from Charlotte Dyer to retake the lead; going 2-1 into half
time.
- The Gophers came out of the first half looking for vengeance. Despite Shae-Lynn
Henderson's game-high 15 saves through the duration of the 3rd quarter, the Gophers
were able to sneak through, tying the game 2-2.
- The Gophers scored first in the fourth quarter, taking the lead for the first time in the
match. However the Angels again didn't let that last long as Maya Kirstein tied the score
just 3 minutes later, notching her first collegiate goal.
- However the Gophers continued to press the Angels, eventually finding the back of the
net with less than 2 minutes on the clock to secure the lead.
