Avenging Angels Soar to Victory on Alumnae Appreciation Day

RALEIGH, N.C. | Meredith College basketball took control early and didn't look back in Saturday's 62-45 win over Salem College. Pam Mock and Rylie Wade each notched a double-double in the win. Mock had 18 points, and a season-high 10 rebounds and Wade scored 10 points and hauled in 18 boards.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Meredith went on an 8-2 run early in the opening quarter. Paris Bethea nailed a jumper and Mock scored two baskets in a row to end the quarter. After ten minutes, the Avenging Angels led 17-10.
  • Amy Velediaz-Pedroza converted back-to-back jumpers for the Spirits to cut the deficit to seven. Danae Hawkins buried a jumper and on the next possession, Kendalyn Dixon made a three to highlight Meredith's 10-2 run.
  • At the end of 20, the Avenging Angels led 31-16.
  • The third quarter was back-and-forth with both sides trading scoring runs. Cree Bass made a layup for Salem to close the quarter.
  • Meredith led by 13 points going into the fourth quarter and Emme Baber opened up the frame with a smooth jumper. Later in the quarter, Kylie Wade found space in the lane and made a strong driving layup.
  • Kaitlyn Lee and Athena Mowatt drained back-to-back baskets for Meredith. Lee stepped up and made a jumper and on the next possession, Jeallen Holland passed it to Mowatt, who cashed the corner three.
  • Rylie Wade had a fantastic game and secured her sixth double-double of the season. Wade was a found success in the paint all night and thrived on the glass hauling in 18 boards.
  • Mock finished the game with 18 points, shooting 9-12 from the floor.
  • Meredith dominated the rebound category with 61 rebounds compared to Salem's 32.
  • In the loss, Velediaz-Pedroza and Bass led the Spirits scoring 16 and 11 points, respectively.

UP NEXT:
  • Meredith hits the road next week for a pair of conference games against North Carolina Wesleyan and Pfeiffer before returning home to face cross-town rivals William Peace on Tuesday, February 4th at 6:00 p.m. in the Weatherspoon Gym.
