ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. | The Avenging Angels had a tough shooting night in the 66-39 loss to the Battling Bishops on Wednesday night. Despite a strong first quarter, the offensive momentum stalled out for Meredith in the final three frames. NC Wesleyan closed out the win with a strong fourth quarter. In the loss,
Pam Mock and
Danae Hawkins scored in double figures.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Mock scored two early buckets for Meredith and Rylie Wade joined in converting a layup. Later in the quarter, Hawkins broke up a 5-0 NC Wesleyan run and nailed a jumper for her first points of the contest. Mock and Hawkins combined for six points to end the quarter. The Avenging Angels shot 50% from the floor in the first ten minutes and only trailed, 19-15.
- The Battling Bishops set the tone in the second quarter rattling off an 11-1 run to extend their lead to 14. Kendalyn Dixon sank a jumper, momentarily halting the NC Wesleyan surge. NC Wesleyan closed out the half with six more points to take the 36-20 advantage into the break.
- Dixon made a jumper to kick start the third quarter for Meredith. A few possessions later, Mock converted a tough layup through contact and made the ensuing free throw for the three-point play. Rylie Wade cashed in two of the Avenging Angels six made free throws in the quarter.
- NC Wesleyan had the lead going into the fourth and sealed the victory with a 12-2 run.
- Mock led Meredith's offense, scoring 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Hawkins put up 10 points and dished out three assists.
- Nadia Simmons showcased an impressive performance in the win. She scored 23 points on 8-16 from the floor, two threes, and five free throws.
