Meredith Wins in Dominant Fashion over Rival William Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. | Meredith College basketball picked up the dominant 64-46 rivalry win over William Peace on Tuesday night in the Weatherspoon Gym. Meredith played a complete game and had four players score in double figures. Pam Mock shot over 50% from the field en route to a 19 point, 11 rebound performance. Rylie Wade controlled the paint and the boards, scoring 18 points and hauling in 19 rebounds.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Danae Hawkins hit a jumper to break up the back-and-forth start. Next, Rylie Wade got fouled and converted two free throws. Paris Bethea capped off the 10-3 run for the Avenging Angels driving to the lane and laying it in for two.
  • Shania Taylor and Kaylan Logan started the second quarter with back-to-back jumpers for the Pacers. Obrene'a Day made two threes and Allye Woodruff stepped up and knocked down another triple to give William Peace the 21-20 advantage. Meredith responded, scoring five of the last seven points in the quarter to go up 27-25 at the break.
  • The Avenging Angels went on an 8-3 run to start the third quarter and increased their lead to seven, 35-28. The Pacers battled back; Logan nailed two from beyond the arc to cut the deficit to just three. Both sides traded baskets and at the end of the quarter, Mock hauled in the defensive board and hit Rylie Wade with the outlet pass for the layup to beat the buzzer and give the Avenging Angels momentum going into the final quarter.
  • Bethea threaded a nice pass to Mock, who nailed a jumper to increase Meredith's lead to eight, 46-38. William Peace kept answering Meredith with successful trips down the floor. Emme Baber made the key play that gave the Avenging Angels all the late game momentum and confidence. Baber stole the ball, sprinted up the court, made the layup through contact, and drew the foul. She stepped up and buried the free throw for the successful and-one. Meredith made seven free throws down the stretch to secure the 64-46 victory.
  • Meredith shot 45% from the field compared to William Peace's 28%.
  • The Avenging Angels scored 38 points in the paint and had 10 points off of 14 Pacer Turnovers.
  • Meredith had four players score in double figures: Mock (19), Rylie Wade (18), Danae Hawkins (13), and Bethea (10).
  • William Peace made nine threes in the game. Kaylan Logan Bouknight striped three from distance and led the Pacers in the loss, scoring 13 points.
