Meredith Falls to Southern Virginia

RALEIGH, N.C. | Meredith College basketball fell to Southern Virginia 71-29 on Saturday afternoon. Southern Virginia sits atop the USA South Women's basketball rankings with a 13-0 record in conference play. Meredith played stellar defense and only faced a six point deficit after the first quarter, 15-9. Southern Virginia got hot from beyond the arc in the second half and pulled away for the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Kendalyn Dixon made a jumper to start the game. Southern Virginia's Abigail Snyder scored on the next two possessions. Rylie Wade matched Snyder, nailing two midrange shots to give Meredith the early 6-4 advantage. The Knights went on an 11-3 run to close out the opening frame and take the six-point lead, 15-9.  
  • Snyder dominated the second quarter for Southern Virginia, scoring seven points. The Knights outscored Meredith 18-6 to take the 33-15 lead into the break.
  • Southern Virginia found success from beyond the arc in the third quarter, splashing home five triples. Rylie Wade made a layup for the Avenging Angels and Paris Bethea converted her signature mid-range floater. The hot shooting for the Knights gave them the 59-20 lead headed into the fourth.
  • Kaitlyn Lee scored for Meredith, nailing a turnaround jumper in the lane. Bethea hit back-to-back floaters to end the afternoon.
  • Southern Virginia won 71-29.
  • The Knights scored 31 points off of Meredith's turnovers and made a total of eight threes.
  • Snyder put up 22 points on 10-14 from the field and two triples.
  • Rylie Wade had a double double in the loss, scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
