BREVARD, N.C. | Meredith College Softball made a statement sweeping Brevard in their conference opener. The Avenging Angels won game one 13-5 and game two 12-2.

Avery Puryear and
Tess Spangenburg were clutch all day, leading the team in RBIs both games. Our defense was solid, and all three pitchers had great performances in the circle to work together to get the sweep."

GAME ONE: Meredith 12 – Brevard 2
SCORING:
- Avery Puryear roped an RBI double to left field, scoring two runs. Next up, Tess Spangenburg scored Puryear from third on a groundout to make it 3-0.
- Puryear's double to right center field in the second inning drove in three of the Avenging Angels seven runs in the frame.
- Brevard scored two runs in the third and fourth innings.
- Puryear hit her third RBI double of the game in the fifth inning. Sarah Manis and Spangenburg had back-to-back RBI singles to put Meredith ahead 13-5.
HITTING:
- Avery Puryear was perfect at the plate. She went 4-4 with three doubles and six RBIs.
- Tess Spangenburg went 2-4 with four RBIs.
- Sarah Manis had three hits in four at bats and one RBI.
- The Avenging Angels tallied 15 hits in game one.
PITCHING:
- Lillie Davis got the start and earned her 7th win of the season. She pitched four innings and recorded two strikeouts.
- Emily Dorsey threw the final inning for Meredith and fanned two batters.
- Logan Masinsky got the start for the Tornados and took the loss. She allowed seven hits and eight runs, while striking out one batter in one and two-thirds innings pitched.
- Deana McMinn came in for relief and threw three and a third, allowing five runs on eight hits and getting one K. Â
GAME TWO: Meredith 12 – Brevard 2
SCORING:
- Avery Puryear's success at the plate continued in the opening inning of game two. She roped an RBI double to left field, which gave Meredith the 2-0 lead.
- Lillie Davis lifted a single to right field that brought in two runs. Emilee Lewis hit a triple that scored the Avenging Angels' eighth run of the inning.
- Spangenburg extended the lead to 9-0 in the top of the second inning. Brevard responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
- Meredith tacked on two more runs in the third and Kaydon Roberson roped an RBI single to left field that scored Lindsey Drew to put Meredith ahead 12-2.
HITTING:
- Ashbee Standridge went 3-4 at the plate and scored three runs.
- Lille Davis was 2-3 with two RBIs and Tess Spangenburg had two hits and an RBI.
- Meredith totaled 13 hits in the 12-2 victory.
PITCHING:
- Kaylee Manning got the start in the circle for Meredith and picked up her third win of the year. Manning pitched a complete game, struck out five batters, and only allowed three hits and two runs.
- Savannah Barr took the loss in the circle for Brevard.
