Meredith’s Strong Second Half Leads to 22-5 Victory over Hood College

RALEIGH, N.C. | Meredith College lacrosse earned their seventh straight victory today, 22-5 over Hood College. After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Avenging Angels found their groove on offense and took control of the game.

QUOTING HEAD COACH LAUREN SCOTT:
"It was a great day overall celebrating our history of dominance in front of our alumnae who paved the way. Our second half shut out proved our ability to adjust and the impact our freshman can have when they step up to the level of the college game."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Kenzie Todd scored first for Meredith. Hood responded with back-to-back goals from Katy Pryzbocki and Julia Gregory to take the 2-1 lead.
  • On the next possession, Reese Walker threaded a quick pass to Bailey Swails, who buried it into the back of the net, tying the game at two.
  • Allison June Mabe scored to help Meredith momentarily regain the lead. On the next Hood possession, Avery Stanley created space and flung one past Horrell to tie the game back at three all.
  • Ava Spradley used her speed to dart through a lane. She fired one past the keeper, giving Meredith the 4-3 advantage. Spradley's tally kick started four straight goals for the Avenging Angels. At the end of the first quarter, Meredith held a 7-3 advantage.
  • Abbey Burnette scored two straight goals for the Blazers in the second quarter. Burnette's scoring brought Hood within four, 9-5 with 7:19 left in the half. Mabe and Walker scored the final two goals of the period for Meredith, giving the Avenging Angels the 11-5 lead at the break.
  • The players took Scott's halftime adjustments to heart and executed them perfectly on both sides of the ball. Meredith shut out Hood in the second half and scored 11 more goals.
  • Reese Walker added to her highlight reel with an electric behind the shoulder goal in the second half.
  • Logan Campbell scored the final goal of the game, putting the exclamation mark on Meredith's 22-5 victory.
  • Walker had a ten-point day with five goals and five assists.
  • Todd scored three goals and added two assists for five points.
  • Freshman Logan Campbell scored a hat trick in the win
  • Ava Spradley and Lauryn Turner each scored twice and Elle White notched a goal for the Avenging Agels.
  • Madi Horrell picked up her 10th win of the season in goal. She played 45 minutes and made five saves.
  • Abby Burnette led the Blazers in the loss, scoring twice on five shots.
