Seniors Propel Avenging Angels to 24-1 Win over William Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. | Meredith College Lacrosse cruised to a 24-1 victory over the eight seed, William Peace in round one of the USA South Women's Lacrosse tournament on Saturday.
Before the game, the Avenging Angels recognized five senior players—Lauryn Turner, Ava Spradley, Sophie LeClaire, Allison June Mabe, Casey Phelps—and senior team manager Grace Ledford.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Allison June Mabe scored the game's first goal on an assist from Kenzie Todd. On the next possession, Mary Langer made a great individual play for the Pacers, found space near the goal, and slotted her shot in the upper left corner for the score to tie the game at one.
  • After that, Meredith dominated, scoring the next 13 goals to take the 14-1 lead after the first quarter. Ava Spradley scored three straight goals and Lauryn Turner and Reese Walker both netted two as part of the opening quarter onslaught.
  • Meredith's offense continued to dominate in the second quarter, scoring seven more goals to take the 21-1 advantage into the break. Sophie Leclaire highlighted the Avenging Angels scoring in the second quarter, firing two shots into the nylon.
  • In the third quarter, Reese Walker, Logan Campbell, and Madison Dean scored Meredith's final three goals of the game.
  • Madi Horrell got the start in net and the win. She had one save on two shots faced.
  • Reese Walker finished the game with nine points on three goals and six assists.
  • Lauryn Turner ended her Senior Day with three goals and one assist on five shots. Allison June Mabe scored three goals and tallied three assists for six points.
  • Ava Spradley balled out in the win, scoring a game-high five goals to go with two assists for a seven-point outing. She also had 11 draw controls.
  • Meredith out shot William Peace 43-2 and had 26 shots on goal
  • The Avenging Angels won 27 draw controls to the Pacers two.
UP NEXT:
  • Meredith advances one step closer to capturing their eleventh straight tournament title. The Avenging Angels will face #4 Southern Virginia next Thursday in the semifinals.
