Avenging Angels Fall 4-2 to Piedmont at NCWU/Meredith Classic

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Meredith College soccer battled Piedmont University Sunday afternoon in a neutral-site contest as part of the NCWU/Meredith Classic, ultimately falling 4-2 in a competitive matchup.

Piedmont capitalized early, scoring all four of its goals in the first half. Meredith soon found its footing, creating chances and shifting the momentum. Freshman Emma Jolliff put the Avenging Angels on the board with a goal at the 21:09 mark, finishing a key opportunity to cut into the deficit.

Meredith carried that energy into the second half with a quick response. Sophomore Evelyn Hopkins found the back of the net to bring the Angels within striking distance, but despite their strong push and improved play, the Lions held on for the win.

Meredith's defense showed great resilience, particularly in the second half when they held the Lions scoreless. The back line tightened after the early goals, making key stops and maintaining pressure to keep Piedmont from extending their lead. In just their second game of the season, the Avenging Angels fought hard and grew from the challenge. The team showed progress by responding well after the slow start, competing throughout the match, and demonstrating their potential for growth.

Meredith will return to action on Friday, September 5, facing Roanoke College at 4:00pm on the campus of the University of Lynchburg.
