LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lauren Fisher and Ava Walker each netted first half goals as Roanoke emerged with a 2-0 non-conference win over Meredith in soccer action on Friday evening in Lynchburg, Va.
The Avenging Angels finished off the match with four shots, coming from the starting quartet of
Ellie Heney,
Lucy Miller,
Claire Wagner and
Evelyn Hopkins. Both Miller and Wagner had one shot on goal attempt each for Meredith.
The Maroons' offense closed with 25 shots in the match, including 12 shots on goal. Rebecca Carr had a team-best six shots, including three in the direction of the goalkeeper, while Fisher capped off her solid performance with five shots (three SOG). The combination of Walker (three), Bree Fulkerson (two), Kacee Schmidt (two) and Madalyn Szoke (two) had multiple shots for Roanoke.
Walker provided the Maroons with the early 1-0 advantage in the seventh minute of action, following a pass from Schmidt. Ten minutes later, in the 17th minute, Fisher drove home a penalty kick for the second Roanoke goal.
Samantha Woodfin closed with 10 saves in the match for the Avenging Angels. Meanwhile, her counterpart, Grace Suchy, closed with two saves in the victory.
The Avenging Angels complete their two-day stint in Lynchburg, Va., on Saturday when they face the University of Lynchburg as they search for their first win of the season.
