BREVARD, N.C. – One goal in each quarter, including a strike in the 16th minute of action, allowed Brevard to edge Methodist by a 2-0 margin in USA South Conference soccer action on Friday evening.
Mikayla Zvekan netted the first goal of the first half, following a pass from Brennan Howell, as the Tornados assumed the 1-0 lead. It was one of nine shots in the opening frame for Brevard, which tallied 17 shots over the duration of the match.
The second goal came in the 64th minute when Mikaela Edwards hit Kinlee Mozley, who converted a header for the 2-0 advantage.
Meredith finished the match with eight shots, including four shots on goal. Meanwhile, the Tornados tallied 17 shots (six shots on goal) in the USA South Conference opener for both teams.
Abby Nunez picked up the win in net for Brevard, converting four saves. Meredith had both
Samantha Woodfin (three save) and
Carter Knox (one) between the pipes.
The Brevard offense was led by the duo of Mozley and Zveken, who finished with four shots apiece. Meanwhile, Nunez and Edwards added three shots apiece.
