BUENA VISTA, Va. - Meredith soccer held Southern Virginia for the first half, but ultimately fell by a score of 2-0 on the road on a cool Saturday night in Virginia.
The conference-leading Knights used a pair of second-half goals from Ashlee Kelsey to separate from the Avenging Angels.
Coming off a 3-0 home win over William Peace on Tuesday night, Meredith looked to capitalize on the momentum against a tough opponent in Southern Virginia.
Freshman goalkeeper
Delaney Thompson delivered a valiant effort for the Avenging Angels, making 11 saves in the opening half to keep the game scoreless.
However, it did not take the Knights long to strike in the second half, as Kelsey delivered a perfect strike to the top right of the net just out of Thompson's reach in the 46th minute.
Then, in the 56th minute, Kelsey found the back of the net again, this time on a blast to the top left.
Meredith's
Sadie Jones delivered a pair of shots on target in the second half, but Southern Virginia was up to the task.
Up next, Meredith will have a non-conference road trip to Warren Wilson, set for this Thursday, October 22 at 3 p.m.
