MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Meredith volleyball continued its stellar season on Saturday, cruising to a 3-1 win at Pfeiffer to move to 5-2 in the USA South.
The Avenging Angels took the first two sets before dropping hard-fought third set. However, they quickly bounced back, rolling to a 25-18 win in the fourth set to take the win.
Senior
Caitlyn Russell was the offensive leader once again for Meredith, with a team-best 16 kills on an efficient ..343 hitting percentage.
Reagan Kresho also delivered a solid offensive performance, with a season-best nine kills.
Megan Murray played a solid all-around match, with a double-double (15 digs, 10 assists). However, it was freshman
Scarlet Griffin who was the primary setter on Saturday, with a season-best 25 assists.
The Falcons were strong through the early and middle part of the opening set, now allowing the Angels to get much separation. Meredith did use a 4-0 run late to take a 19-17 lead and led the rest of the set, eventually closing it out at 25-22.
The second set mirrored the first, with Pfeiffer running ahead at 14-10 midway through the set. But once again, Meredith was undeterred, rallying back late to take control. This time, it was a 3-0 run to make it 19-16 and the Avenging Angels never looked back, winning the final four points, with three kills from Russell,
Daven Brabble and
Saline Spalding to close it out at 25-18.
While Meredith led early in the third set, Pfeiffer rallied from behind and eked out the set at 25-23 to avoid the sweep.
The momentum for the Falcons was short lived, however, as the Avenging Angels pounced to begin the fourth, with a 10-0 run to begin the set that effectively put the match away. While the Falcons found their footing a bit late, it was not enough to create real pressure as Meredith clinched the match in four sets.
Up next, the Avenging Angels will have a big road match coming up this Wednesday, taking on crosstown rival William Peace on Wednesday, October 7 at 7 p.m.
