Angels Show Fight in Road Loss to Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Meredith College basketball battled throughout four quarters but fell 66–51 to unbeaten USA South Conference leader Southern Virginia University on Wednesday evening at Knight Arena.

The Avenging Angels stayed within striking distance early, trailing just 12–11 after the opening quarter. Meredith shot efficiently in the first half, including a strong second quarter that saw the team hit 70 percent from the field, but Southern Virginia used a late second-quarter surge to take a 30–25 lead into halftime.

Southern Virginia extended its advantage in the third quarter behind a balanced offensive attack and perimeter shooting, pushing the lead to double digits. Meredith continued to fight, matching the Knights in points in the paint and shooting 50 percent from the field overall, but was unable to overcome Southern Virginia's depth and rebounding edge.
