Meredith Softball Splits Saturday in Ashland


ASHLAND, Va. – Meredith College softball split its Saturday slate in Ashland, Virginia, earning a 5–1 victory over SUNY New Paltz before falling to Randolph-Macon College, 15–3. The Avenging Angels received another complete-game effort in the circle from Lillie Davis in the opener and a three-run home run from Ashbee Standridge in the nightcap.


Game 1 vs. New Paltz – Game Highlights

Meredith wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning. After Emilee Lewis reached base and advanced into scoring position, Tess Spangenburg drove her in with an RBI double down the left-field line to give the Avenging Angels an early 1–0 lead.

The lead grew in the second as Lewis delivered an RBI single to score Abigail Holt. Meredith then broke the game open in the third inning with three runs on four hits. Laycie Eastwood lined a two-run single up the middle, and Rylee Meyer followed with an RBI single to push the advantage to 5–0.

New Paltz scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth, but Meredith's defense and pitching shut the door to secure the four-run victory.

Game 1 vs. New Paltz – Key Performances

Lillie Davis earned the complete-game win, allowing just one run on four hits with five strikeouts. Through three complete games this season, Davis has surrendered just one earned run.

At the plate, Spangenburg went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Eastwood drove in two, Lewis reached base twice with a run scored and an RBI, and Meyer added an RBI single.

Meredith totaled eight hits and committed just one error in the opener.


Game 2 vs. Randolph-Macon – Game Highlights

#7 Randolph-Macon jumped out early with three runs in the first inning and added three more in the third. Meredith responded in the bottom of the third when Ashbee Standridge crushed a three-run home run to right field, scoring Salem Zeka and Kaydon Roberson to cut the deficit to 6–3.

The Yellow Jackets continued to add runs across the middle and late innings, pulling away with multi-run frames in the fourth and seventh.

Game 2 vs. Randolph-Macon – Key Performances

Standridge led Meredith with a three-run homer and a double, accounting for all three runs. Tess Spangenburg recorded two hits, while Salem Zeka and Becca Little also reached safely with base hits.

Game 2 vs. Randolph-Macon – Final Notes

Meredith finished with six hits in the nightcap and used five pitchers in the circle as the Avenging Angels closed out the two-day slate in Ashland losing 15-3 to Randolph Macon. 

The Angels will next take on Guilford College on March 4th at home in a double header at 1pm and 3pm.
