RALEIGH, N.C. – The Meredith College lacrosse team battled early but ultimately fell to Rhodes College, 22–12, on Tuesday afternoon at home.
The Avenging Angels kept the contest tight through the first three quarters and even pulled even midway through the third period before Rhodes used a strong fourth quarter to pull away.
Game Highlights
Rhodes struck first, but Meredith quickly responded with a goal from Kenzie Todd to even the score early in the opening quarter. The Lynx built a 3–1 lead before Meredith answered with back-to-back man-up goals from Reese Walker and Todd, tying the game 3–3 at the end of the first quarter.
Meredith took its first lead early in the second quarter when Logan Campbell converted a free-position opportunity to make it 4–3. The teams traded goals throughout the period, and Walker scored late in the half to knot the game at 7–7 heading into halftime.
The Avenging Angels continued to fight in the third quarter. Lily Westbrook scored to tie the contest at 8–8 with just over seven minutes remaining in the period, keeping Meredith within striking distance. Rhodes responded with a short run to take an 11–10 lead into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the Lynx offense surged, scoring multiple goals in a stretch that helped create separation as Rhodes closed out the 22–12 victory.
