The Meredith College softball team opened play at The Spring Games in Florida on Sunday, falling to Worcester State, 4-2, before dropping the second contest of the day to Ramapo College, 8-0.

The Avenging Angels totaled 10 hits across the two games but were unable to overcome a big inning from Worcester State and a strong pitching performance from Ramapo.

Game Highlights

Game One – Worcester State 4, Meredith 2

Meredith jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Emilee Lewis reached base and later scored on an RBI groundout by Tess Spangenburg to give the Angels a 1-0 advantage.

The Angels added another run in the fifth inning when Lewis singled and eventually scored on an RBI single by Ashbee Standridge, extending the Meredith lead to 2-0.

Worcester State responded in the bottom of the fifth inning with a four-run rally highlighted by a two-RBI single from Morgan Keefe and an RBI hit from Bella Gasbarro to take a 4-2 lead.

Meredith threatened in the seventh inning with back-to-back singles from Laycie Eastwood and Spangenburg, but Worcester State held on to secure the win.

Game Two – Ramapo 8, Meredith 0 (5 innings)

Ramapo struck early in the second game, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Hannah Hensler.

The Roadrunners added single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings before breaking the game open with three runs in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
