The Meredith College softball team delivered a commanding doubleheader sweep over Salem on Saturday, earning a 7-3 victory in game one before finishing the day with an 8-0 run-rule shutout in game two.
Game One: Meredith 7, Salem 3
Meredith used timely hitting and a strong late push to take control of the opener. After building an early lead, the Avenging Angels broke the game open in the sixth inning with a string of RBI hits.
Lillie Davis helped her own cause with an RBI double during the rally, while Kaydon Roberson added an RBI single to extend the advantage.
Ashbee Standridge led the offensive charge in game one, blasting a home run and driving in three runs as part of a big day at the plate. Abigail Holt also contributed with two RBI in the contest.
In the circle, Davis earned the win, keeping Salem in check and setting the tone for the day.
Game Two: Meredith 8, Salem 0 (5 innings)
The Avenging Angels carried their momentum into game two, overpowering Salem in an 8-0 run-rule victory.
Davis was dominant once again, tossing a one-hit shutout to complete her second complete-game win of the day. The right-hander allowed just four hits across both games while striking out an impressive 17 batters.
She also led the offense, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a single, double, and home run, fueling Meredith's five-inning victory.
Standridge continued her standout performance by adding another home run, finishing the day with two long balls, while several Avenging Angels contributed to the offensive surge.
Meredith's offense was firing on all cylinders, totaling 26 hits across the doubleheader while consistently applying pressure on Salem's defense.
