RALEIGH, N.C. – The Meredith College softball team delivered an impressive performance Saturday at the Triangle Classic at Walnut Creek Softball Complex. The Avenging Angels opened the day with a 15–4 victory over Gallaudet University before earning a dramatic 4–3 win in nine innings against No. 12 Randolph-Macon College. Meredith combined for 19 runs across the two games and capped the afternoon with an extra-inning victory over the nationally ranked Yellow Jackets.
Game One – Meredith 15, Gallaudet 4
Meredith erupted for 10 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 15–4 victory over Gallaudet.
Palmer Martin powered the offense with two home runs and four RBIs, while
Ashbee Standridge added a home run and four RBIs.
Tess Spangenburg recorded two hits and an RBI, and
Laycie Eastwood contributed a hit and two RBIs.
The Avenging Angels collected 10 hits in the contest and added insurance runs in the second, third, and fourth innings.
Emily Dorsey earned the win in the circle, tossing three innings while allowing two hits and striking out three.
Game Two – Meredith 4, No. 12 Randolph-Macon 3 (9 innings)
Meredith closed the day with a thrilling nine-inning victory over No. 12 Randolph-Macon. The Avenging Angels jumped ahead with two runs in the first inning before the Yellow Jackets tied the game late with a pair of runs in the seventh to force extra innings.
Meredith pushed across the go-ahead run in the ninth and held Randolph-Macon scoreless in the bottom half to secure the win.
Emilee Lewis led the offense with two hits and two runs scored.
Mariah Bell added two hits and an RBI, while
Tess Spangenburg delivered a double and RBI.
Ashbee Standridge drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
In the circle,
Lillie Davis pitched a complete game, striking out eight while allowing just four hits across nine innings.
