RALEIGH, N.C. – Meredith softball closed play at the Triangle Classic Sunday with a challenging pair of matchups at Walnut Creek Softball Complex, opening against No. 25 Salisbury University before facing the University of Lynchburg later in the day. The Avenging Angels battled throughout both contests, showing resilience at the plate.
Game 1: #25 Salisbury 6, Meredith 3
Meredith opened the day against No. 25 Salisbury and quickly settled into a competitive battle. After Salisbury took a 1–0 lead in the first inning, the Avenging Angels answered in the third when
Laycie Eastwood reached base and later scored on an RBI single from
Mariah Bell to even the game.
The Angels took their first lead in the fifth inning.
Logan Fennell reached and moved into scoring position before
Emilee Lewis drew a walk to set the table.
Tess Spangenburg delivered the key hit of the inning, lining a two-run single up the middle to give Meredith a 3–1 advantage.
Salisbury responded in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run double to regain the lead and added an insurance run in the sixth to secure the 6–3 result. Meredith finished with five hits and worked five walks in the contest.
Game 2: Lynchburg 7, Meredith 3
In the afternoon matchup, Lynchburg built an early lead with runs in the first and second innings before a three-run home run in the fourth pushed the Hornets ahead 5–0. Meredith answered in the bottom of the fourth when
Mariah Bell reached base and moved into scoring position before
Lillie Davis drove in the Angels' first run.
The Hornets added two runs in the fifth, but Meredith rallied in the sixth.
Kailey Hicks sparked the inning with a pinch-hit single, followed by a base hit from
Abigail Holt.
Kaydon Roberson drove in a run with a single up the middle, and
Gracie Ritchie added another RBI single to cut the deficit to 7–3.
Meredith finished with eight hits in the game before Lynchburg closed out the win.
